Last week, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Mike Crapo (R-ID) and Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-OR) introduced the Taxpayer Assistance and Service Act (S. 3931).  The bill, modeled on a discussion draft they issued last year, would implement an array of provisions intended to improve IRS procedure and administration, including enhanced oversight of unenrolled tax preparers, increased protection for fraud victims, expanded jurisdiction for the Tax Court, improvements to IRS online accounts, and changes to strengthen the Taxpayer Advocate Service.  It has bipartisan support in both chambers and could pass this year if there is room to include it on the Senate calendar.
