FY 26 Appropriations Risk

With government funding expiring January 30, Congress must act soon to pass the remaining nine appropriations bills. The Senate aims to advance a package of five major spending bills but has stalled due to concerns from fiscal conservatives. The House wants to approve less-controversial bills but likely will not move forward unless the Senate does. As a result, Congress is expected to delay funding action until January, using the rest of December for nominees and the defense bill. With only three weeks in January to finalize funding, a continuing resolution extending current funding appears likely, setting up another potential fight over a government shutdown in the new year.
