Senate Republicans Race the Clock on Reconciliation Bill

This week, Senate Republicans aimed to finalize their reconciliation bill before members depart. Senators returned Monday with key committee hearings on Tuesday and Wednesday before the Juneteenth holiday on Thursday.  Closed-door negotiations among Senate Republicans, Finance Committee leaders, and White House officials continue, while Republican aides meet with the Senate parliamentarian to ensure provisions qualify under reconciliation rules.

Floor votes on H.R. 1 are expected later this month, making this a crucial week for finalizing text and swaying undecided members. With two weeks left before the July 4 target, Sen. Thune has warned the recess could be in jeopardy if the package isn't ready. Meanwhile, no House business is scheduled, and committees will resume next week.
