This Week in Congress

This week, Congress continued working to avoid a government shutdown before September 30th.  Also, the House considered the annual defense appropriations bill along with a bipartisan healthcare package to boost patient price transparency and reauthorize several health programs as key deadlines loom.  The Senate considered a legislative vehicle for Military Construction-Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, and Transportation-Housing and Urban Development annual appropriations.  Finally, at the meeting of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Chairman Durbin and Sen. Graham agreed that it’s time to resurrect the “Gang of Eight” immigration-reform package from 2013. That bill passed the Senate with bipartisan support, but never got a vote in the House.
