This Week in Congress

House Republican leaders scheduled a vote this week on their bill to raise the debt ceiling and cut federal spending to force negotiations with President Biden and congressional Democrats.  Also, the House voted on a resolution that would use the Congressional Review Act to rescind the Biden administration’s suspension of tariffs on solar panels from Southeast Asia.  The Senate voted on advancing the nomination of Joshua Jacobs to be undersecretary for benefits at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Department.  A procedural vote was taken to direct the VA to study the effects of cannabis use on veterans diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder or chronic pain.  Finally, the Senate voted on legislation that would use the Congressional Review Act to block the Environmental Protection Agency’s new trucking emission standards, with only a simple majority needed to send the resolution to the House.
