President Biden’s State of the Union

On Tuesday, March 1, 2022, President Biden delivered his first State of the Union (SOTU) address before a joint session of Congress; the president’s address before a joint session of Congress in 2021 was not a formal State of the Union. During it, the President addressed his “Build Back Better” social safety net and climate package, and how the legislation would reduce costs for families, including prescription drugs, health care premiums, childcare, and energy.  Additionally, he addressed housing to care for seniors and people with disabilities; higher education affordability; tax relief for families; major changes to the ocean shipping industry and ways to help alleviate supply chain delays; plans to impose mandatory staffing at nursing homes; and the war in Ukraine and sanctions on Russia.
