ASA Calls Upon House and Senate Leadership for Full Funding of Surface Transportation Programs

ASA, along with several transportation associations, called upon the House and Senate Leadership for full funding for surface transportation programs in fiscal year 2022. The current Continuing Resolution (CR) holds all surface transportation program spending at FY 2021 levels.  This means state departments of transportation and other localities that receive funding are currently prevented from obligating funds for new formula programs created by the recently passed infrastructure bill  as well as accessing the roughly 20 percent growth in existing formula programs the new law authorizes.   Unless the increased spending levels are met by appropriators, Congress, and President Biden in the next appropriations measure, which is due by February 18th, this unnecessary delay will continue into 2022 and inhibit state and local governments from moving forward with much needed and necessary projects.
