House Cannabis Legislation

On Tuesday, five Republicans, led by Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina, introduced a bill to remove cannabis from the federal schedule of controlled substances and tax and regulate marijuana, offering what supporters called the most expansive House GOP proposal on legalization yet. The 131-page draft bill would resolve the tension between federal and state law in the 21 states and territories plus the District of Columbia that have legalized recreational use of the plant. It could also persuade even more states to pursue legalization.
