Next Week, The House Votes on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)

Next week, the House is scheduled to consider the annual defense policy bill (HR 4350) and the Rules Committee has begun publishing amendments submitted for consideration. Currently, there are 95 amendments listed, and that number is expected to keep growing as the week progresses.  The amendments span a variety of topics including construction procurement funding, unfair competition, and one that would create a nondiscrimination policy for service in the military that would bar exclusion based on race, color, national origin, religion, or sex (including gender identity or sexual orientation).  Other amendments would seek to block the use of federal funds to require a member of the military to receive the COVID-19 vaccine; to allow a member of the Chinese communist party to purchase real estate in the United States, the use of federal funds to establish a chief diversity officer or senior advisors for diversity and inclusion, PFAS funding, and an amendment that would require the Defense secretary to submit a report to Congress within 180 days of the law's enactment on maternal mortality rates for military members and their dependents.
