This Week in Congress
The Senate is in recess until July 12th, but funding the nation’s infrastructure remained the focus this week in Congress, as the House moved ahead with a highway and water package while President Biden continued to build support for a separate plan forged with a bipartisan group of senators. Propelling the action is the September 30th expiration of the surface transportation law that offers multiyear guidance to states and localities planning their major projects. That deadline will force lawmakers to act, but it’s still not clear how these pieces will all fit together or if competing visions will result in a stalemate.
