4th of July – Special Edition
After an intense weekend in the Senate, Congress voted on the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) in advance of 4th of July. Republicans narrowly won a 51–49 procedural vote Saturday night to advance OBBBA into full debate, overcoming resistance from Republican holdouts like Sen. Tillis (R-NC) and Paul (R-KY). A revised Congressional Budget Office (CBO) cost estimate released over the weekend forecasts a $3.3 trillion increase in the debt over 10 years and up to 12 million more uninsured, which raised red flags over Medicaid and SNAP cuts. Once OBBBA is cleared, Senate committees are expected to resume work on FY 2026 appropriations, cybersecurity policy, and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) nominations, with Homeland Security and Armed Services leading much of the July agenda
