Lean Construction Institute and American Subcontractors Association Form Alliance

ALEXANDRIA, Va.—With the mutual goal of promoting successful capital project delivery, the Lean Construction Institute (LCI) and American Subcontractor Association (ASA) have formed an alliance. Through closely aligned efforts, LCI and ASA are committed to providing timely and relevant resources to meet the needs of design and construction industry owners, practitioners and subcontractors. Combining the strengths of each organization will leverage both LCI’s and ASA’s achievements to date and further both organizations’ ongoing commitment to develop, promote and implement best practices in Lean construction.

LCI has dedicated resources, expertise and knowledge to pursuing research and education programs to promote transformation in the design and construction industries through implementation of an array of Lean tools and techniques. These include the Last Planner® System, other Lean construction training materials, and practitioner guidance of various kinds made available nationally and through LCI’s network of 31 communities of practice around the country.

LCI’s commitment to ongoing knowledge and capabilities development in Lean design and construction and ASA’s broad platform of expertise in improving the business environment in the construction industry will be leveraged to accomplish joint support of our conferences, webinars and educational programs.

Founded in 1997, LCI is a non-profit, membership-based organization with a vision to transform the built environment through Lean implementation. With common language, fundamental principles and basic practices, LCI aims to increase stakeholder satisfaction and project delivery value. The design and construction industry’s productivity level has remained nearly stagnant in 50 years as other industries thrive, but LCI sets out to improve the industry by facilitating continuous education through their Transforming Design and Construction book series, Lean instructional training courses and the annual LCI Congress and Design Forum. LCI advocates for using a variety of tools and techniques that help promote collaborative planning, waste elimination and work-site safety. Founded in 1966, ASA is a national trade association located in Alexandria, Va. ASA amplifies the voice of, and leads, trade contractors to improve the business environment for the construction industry and to serve as a steward for the community. The ideals and beliefs of ASA are ethical and equitable business practices, quality construction, a safe and healthy work environment, integrity and membership diversity. ASA represents subcontractors, specialty trade contractors and suppliers before all branches (executive, legislative, judicial) and levels (federal, state, local) of government.
