ASA President’s Letter—December
Dear ASA Members,
Last month, I mentioned that the SUBExcel 2018 schedule was shaping up. A few days later, we were able to confirm Dave Sanderson, a survivor from US Airways Flight 1549, also known as “Miracle on the Hudson,” as our keynote speaker!
I am really excited about getting this big-time speaker. Let me explain. Since last year’s SUBExcel, it has been my goal to secure a top-notch keynote speaker. Don’t get me wrong. Last year’s program was excellent and our speakers were fantastic. Our keynote speakers, Redmond Ramos and Dr. Jerry Teplitz, were inspirational and unique. However, none of the speakers were national headliners.
Dave Sanderson changes that for us this year. Dave is an internationally sought-out inspirational speaker and author. The last passenger off the back of Flight 1549, Dave was largely responsible for the well-being and safety of others. He risked his own life in frigid water to help other passengers off the plane. He thought only of helping others. From that day, his life was profoundly changed. He made it his mission to encourage others to do the right thing. Today he travels the world sharing his motivational leadership messages to help people make a difference in how they do business and live their lives.
Getting such a speaker was months in the making, and it took a commitment from the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors to make it happen. They are to be commended.
I am certain you’ll be inspired by Dave Sanderson. He will kick of our convention at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, following breakfast. Also, Joel Stinson from FMI will be our keynote speaker on Friday, March 2. He will present “Recession Proofing Your Company” at 9:00 a.m., following our breakfast and annual meeting, where I will deliver the “State of the Association” address. Both of our keynote speakers are brought to us by the generous support of our keynote speaker sponsor, Commerce Bank.
I encourage you to view the full schedule on our Web site. You’ll see we have a jam-packed education program, peer-to-peer leadership development, and numerous networking opportunities in a condensed schedule. Our final banquet and awards ceremony will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2, and most of you can plan your departure flights on Saturday, March 3—unless of course you wish to stay the weekend to explore! Only the Attorneys’ Council, and those of you who wish to join the attorneys, will be scheduled to meet on Saturday.
Then, register online and make your hotel reservations in the ASA room block at Tempe Mission Palms. The early-bird registration deadline and hotel cutoff date is Jan. 31, 2018.
And finally, it would be my pleasure to see you at the ASA President’s Welcome Reception, hosted by ASA of Arizona, on the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 28.
Thank you in advance for making SUBExcel 2018 truly special!
2017-18 ASA President
