ASA Presents First-Ever National Construction Best Practices Awards

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The American Subcontractors Association presented its first-ever National Construction Best Practices Awards to five construction contractors that demonstrated an extraordinary level of commitment to best industry practices in 2011.

ASA presented the 2011 National Construction Best Practices Awards to: Alberici Constructors, St. Louis, Mo.; Bigane Paving Company, Chicago, Ill.; F.A. Rohrbach, Allentown, Pa.; Ondra-Huyett Associates, Allentown, Pa.; and Rives Construction, Irondale, Ala., during ASA’s annual meeting on March 2 in conjunction with the ASA Business Forum and Convention 2012 in San Antonio.

“ASA’s National Construction Best Practices Awards, presented for the first time this year, recognize firms that perform work as prime contractors and that have demonstrated an extraordinary level of commitment to best industry practices,” said 2011-12 ASA President Kerrick Whisenant, Cornerstone Detention Products Inc., Tanner, Ala.

The ASA Task Force on Ethics in the Construction Industry established the awards program’s rigorous criteria, including use of a standard subcontract whose provisions reflect the best practices incorporated into the ASA-endorsed ConsensusDOCS 750 subcontract agreement and highly favorable evaluations from at least three specialty trade contractors, based on 20 project management factors.

“Never have we had to question the business practices of this firm, for we have always had any inquiries, concerns, or requests acknowledged promptly,” one specialty trade contractor said in its recommendation of Alberici Constructors.

Another specialty trade contractor said Bigane Paving stood out from other contractors, “starting at the bidding process, where they make sure their subcontractors know what they are bidding so they are sure to submit an educated price.”

F.A. Rohrbach received high marks from specialty trade contractors. Yet this contractor distinguished itself in another way by using the ConsensusDOCS 750 subcontract and the ConsensusDOCS 751 short-form subcontract as its main subcontract agreements. “The firm received a perfect score for its equitable subcontract terms and conditions — a remarkable achievement,” Whisenant said.

Another specialty trade contractor praised Rives Construction for “recognizing our company as a valued member of their construction team and proving our worth with their fair contract, ethical bidding process, efficient construction management, competent supervision, and prompt payment practice.”

A specialty trade contractor that recommended Ondra-Huyett Associates for the award said the firm “has long been recognized as an industry leader and a truly professional organization.”
